Located near the geographical center of the state and about 30 miles northwest of Little Rock, Conway, AR is close not only to the banks of the Arkansas River but also to several other bodies of water where you can go for a swim on a hot summer day. Here are three of the best swimming spots within driving distance from downtown Conway.


1. Beaverfork Park Lake

Sitting in the heart of Conway’s largest city park, Beaverfork Park Lake is one of the best-known summertime destinations among locals and visitors from all over the state. Located at 20 Kinley Drive and a little under five miles north of the city center, this place can be reached in less than 10 minutes by car via routes US-64 and AR-25.

Open to the public every day between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm, Beaverfork Park Lake is a fantastic destination if you are searching for a place to go for a swim, but also a great spot for fishing, boating, and picnicking on a sunny day. This public park features excellent facilities, including public grills, a beach area, two pavilions, volleyball courts, and a boat launching ramp.


2. Woolly Hollow State Park

A sprawling oasis of nature in the region, Woolly Hollow State Park encompasses an area of about 370 acres and opened its doors to the public in 1973. This public recreation area was developed after the construction of Bennett Lake, an artificial body of water that covers about 40 acres and offers endless opportunities for water sports lovers.

A perfect day trip destination, Woolly Hollow State Park is located at 82 Woolly Hollow Road near the town of Greenbrier and can be reached in about half an hour by car from downtown Conway via routes US-65 and AR-285. Some of the facilities you can find here include a beach area, 40 campsites, a bathhouse, picnic tables, boat launches, and fishing piers.


3. Petit Jean State Park

Featuring a historic lodge with a pool, impressive rock formations, hiking trails, and a series of waterfalls, Petit Jean State Park is another great destination that can be reached in about 40 minutes by car from downtown Conway. Established in the 1920s, this nature reserve covers an area of a little under 3,500 acres and also features a small natural pond that attracts swimmers from all over the region.
