“We acknowledge that we are part of the problem. But we believe that we can also play a big part in the solution,” states Ho Sung Song.

The Ocean Cleanup

One organization Kia is partnering with is The Ocean Cleanup. Its goal is to have a plastic-free ocean for a better future. In August 2023, the cleanup System002 removed a record-breaking 55 tons of plastic in the Pacific Ocean. Once these materials are properly recycled, some of them will be applied to future Kia models. The organization is also deploying interceptors at the mouths of rivers to prevent plastic waste from entering the ocean.
