What is Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) Technology?

The Kia EV9’s V2H technology lets you use your SUV’s battery to power your home. Imagine this: during a power outage, your EV9 can keep the lights on, the fridge running, and your family comfortable for over three days, depending on your energy usage. It’s like having a backup generator built right into your car!

To make this possible, you’ll need the Wallbox Quasar 2, a bi-directional charger that works seamlessly with the EV9. This charger doesn’t just charge your vehicle—it also allows energy to flow from your EV9 back into your home. Plus, it supports solar charging and dynamic load management, giving you even more control over your energy use.

How Does It Work?

The Kia EV9 comes with two battery options: a 76.1 kWh battery and a larger 99.8 kWh battery. When fully charged, the smaller battery can power a typical home for over three days, while the larger battery can last nearly four days (based on an average daily energy use of 25 kWh).

The Wallbox Quasar 2, which includes a Power Recovery Unit, is essential for enabling V2H functionality.

Benefits of V2H for EV9 Owners

  1. Backup Power During Outages: Keep your home running during blackouts or severe weather.
  2. Save on Energy Costs: Use your EV9’s battery to power your home during peak energy rate periods, then recharge when rates are lower.
  3. Solar Integration: If you have solar panels, you can store excess energy in your EV9’s battery and use it when needed.

How to Get Started

Pre-orders for the Wallbox Quasar 2 are now open, with deliveries starting in June 2024. However, availability is initially limited to residents of California, Texas, Florida, New York, Washington, New Jersey, and Illinois, with a nationwide rollout planned later.

The Kia EV9: More Than Just an SUV

The EV9 is already a standout in the electric vehicle market, offering:

  • Spacious Seating: Accommodate up to seven passengers comfortably.
  • Onboard Power Generator (V2L): Power small appliances or devices directly from your vehicle.
