There are mile markers along the way, and you might even spot some wildlife. You can bring your leashed four-legged friend along to enjoy the trail with you. Entrances to the trail are at Bainbridge Park, Pompe Park, and Gatlin Park.

2. Cadron Settlement Trail

The 5.6-mile intermediate trail in Cadron Settlement Park is family-friendly and has informative signs along the way. The trail is near the Arkansas River and has beautiful views from the river bluffs. There are a few rocky sections and steep inclines, but nothing too difficult for children to climb. You can bring your leashed dog along on the trail. The park has restrooms and several picnic tables for a bite to eat after your hike.

3. Orange Trail

The Orange Trail in Cadron Settlement Park is an easy to intermediate 1.2-mile hike with a short climb. The trail takes you past an old, picturesque cemetery to an area where people have left messages and pictures on the rocks. There is a bench and panoramic views from the cliff over the river below. The trail continues downward and past several benches where you can take a well-deserved rest.

Be on the lookout for squirrels and lizards around the trees and wildflowers along the way. Your pooch is welcome but must be kept on a leash. The are restrooms at the trailhead and also one halfway down the trail.

4. Tollantusky Trail

The 1.42-mile loop trail begins west of the entrance to the parking lot of Cadron Settlement Park and runs past massive red cedars, dogwoods, and honeysuckle, and in places through moss and ferns.

The trail gradually climbs to Vista Point that offers panoramic views of the Arkansas River. After a hike along the ridge, the trail winds down to a stone bridge over the ravine at Old Gist Mill and meanders back to the parking lot. It’s a pleasant, scenic short trail, perfect for a family hike in beautiful surroundings.

5. Camp Robinson Wildlife Loop

Wander for 8.5 miles through the untouched beauty of Camp Robinson State Wildlife Management Area. The easy trail meanders through a woodland of oak savannah and prairies that attract a wide variety of birds such as wrens, sparrows, vireos, warblers, and woodpeckers. It is the best nature trail if you want a peaceful and tranquil stroll to do some birdwatching.
