Most of your car's systems require electricity, and a small electrical problem can rapidly cause other problems. Fortunately, your Kia dealer can fix an issue with your car's electrical system. These are examples of problems we can fix. 3 Electrical Problems You Should Always Fix at Your Kia Dealer Damaged Alternator The alternator in your Kia is responsible for generating all your car's electricity. It does this by converting mechanical energy into AC and then DC. The power it produces is then transmitted to each system and device via wiring. An alternator has a relatively long life of approximately eight years. An alternator will, however, produce less electricity as it ages. more An older alternator will eventually not be able to produce enough power for all your car's systems. When this happens, you'll experience problems like random electrical glitches, starting difficulties, and even a dead battery. A worn alternator can't be repaired, but we can test it for you and replace it if it's failing. Failed Starter Solenoid Some of the power generated by the alternator is used to recharge your battery. This is essential, as the battery uses a large amount of electricity to power the starter motor. When you push the button, an electrical charge is sent from the battery to the starter solenoid. This powers the starter motor, and the motor then cranks your engine. If your starter motor is damaged, it's impossible to start the engine. You can test for a starter motor failure by listening for a slight click when you press the start button. If you hear a click, the starter is working but isn't receiving enough power.
