1. Petit Jean State Park

 

45 minutes from Conway lies an amazing treasure. The road climbs in a series of breathtaking twists and turns until it reaches the summit of Petit Jean Mountain. At the top, enjoy sweeping views of the Arkansas River Valley.

 

Keep going and you arrive at gorgeous Petit Jean State Park. The park is spread over 3,000 acres and includes trails for hiking. One of the best hikes leads to the spectacular 95 foot Cedar Falls.

 

When you are done splashing in the waterfall, visit historic Mather Lodge for lunch. The building is one of many built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

 

2. Arkansas River

The mighty Arkansas River cuts the state nearly in half. And a multi-use trail follows a significant portion of the river. However, did you know there is a trailhead just 20 minutes from Conway?

5. Cadron Settlement Park

History buffs will enjoy a quick trip to Cadron Settlement Park just 20 minutes outside of town. This solemn site recognizes the ghost town of Cadron. Established in the early 1800s, Cadron lost the bid to be the county seat when the government moved to Little Rock. By the 1830s, only ruins remained.

 

Another tragedy struck this site when a cholera epidemic killed many Indians who were traveling through. Their unmarked graves remain today. In recognition, the Historical Society and Chamber of Commerce created the Cadron Settlement Park.
